The standard coupling sleeve, also known as half-bridge type coupling sleeve, has a bridge without thread in the middle of it. The threaded part of the drill rod cannot be screwed through the bridge part of the couplings, and the threaded end can closely adhere to the casing bridge zone. It is particularly suitable for high-torque drilling rigs. Most rope thread (R thread) and trapezoidal thread (T thread) coupling sleeves are half-bridge type. And it is by far the most widely used couplings.

The full-bridge coupling sleeve is with trapezoidal threads, which can completely eliminate the looseness of the coulpling sleeves along the threaded connection. It is mainly used in surface mining, with better disassembly characteristics and firmer connections. The full-bridge coupling sleeve will almost never be stuck, and it is most suitable for drilling rigs equipped with independent rotary mechanisms.

The variable diameter coupling sleeve is used to convert different thread types or thread sizes.
